Before I start venting, let me just say that I totally understand that not everyone is into Halloween. I understand that some of us don't like the constant knocking of trick-or-treaters, or having to spend $ on candy or costumes. Some of us just do not celebrate Halloween because of our religious beliefs. Understood. But Dave & I just spent our afternoon waiting around with our treats...and not a single child knocked on our door. And when we ventured outside, families seemed to assume our building was not welcoming enough to even try. We decided to try the lobby, and we finally ran into two youngsters who seemed surprised that we were actually involved in the festivities. What does this say about our building? I couldn't help but notice that several units were listed on the "do not knock" list in the elevator, but where was the list for units that were willing to participate? We wonder why not many people show up to meetings. Why not many seemed to be interested in what goes on in their own home. The summer picnic was a great opportunity to show that the board is more than just griping about our budget. I'm so glad Kelly got the ball rolling on that. But is a yearly event enough? It takes effort to show interest. What can we do to to show residents that it'll be worthwhile to make that effort? "You're our neighbors,we care what you think. Come share that with us."
Dave & I plan to call this home for years to come, and we'd really like to see major changes in the way we all live in Thayer Towers. Anyone notice that people moving in are getting younger? Have you also noticed all the strollers riding our sidewalks? Parents care about their children, they notice these things. And I for one would like to have some kids knocking down my door next year..~Lucy
